lyrics

The Dancing Dog building is ‘about to get sold’
With interest from developers, that’s ‘what we’ve been told’
The venue is a ‘beautiful place’
Let’s keep the Dancing Dog a ‘community space’

Keep it for the public is the ‘point of this rhyme’
The red brick building built in ‘1909’
About to get sold so we’re ‘cutting it fine’
Once it’s gone, it’s gone for good so ‘now’s the time’

It could be closed forever; the ‘truth does hurt’
Write ‘save the Dancing Dog’ into a ‘Google search’
The idea is sincere- don’t let it disappear
Places like that give suburbs atmosphere!

There’s trivia, karaoke, ‘poetry too’
Live music, comedy ‘and art to view’
There’s too many apartments ‘that part is true’
There are places to live but ‘nothing to do’

There are obstacles, but it’s possible
Type ‘Dancing Dog’ when on the site ‘Pozible’
We can do it when we ‘all pull together’
Don’t let the doors shut to the ‘public forever’

It’s an uphill battle, and we ‘do it for love’
Another block of flats or a community hub?
One person can’t save it but a lot can
We don’t want Footscray as the next Docklands

Now the building is being inspected
The heritage should be protected and respected
Changes to structure ‘could be so real’
Altering will compromise ‘the look and feel’

Closing it down will cause ‘pure disgust’
There are places in suburbs that are ‘cruel to shut’
We lost some cinemas and the ‘pool it sucks’
Don’t let another Footscray icon ‘bite the dust’
